Why Orcas and the Blue Color Theme?
|
The letters Q-R-S were selected based on a convergence of two
events. The first was an article in the Wall Street Journal that
discussed people's perceptions of letters and how companies use
those attitudes with products and services. In the research, the
letters Q, R, and S all scored highly. Notice how many automobile
models start with a letter, especially foreign cars. People tend to
have a more favorable response to models with letters as opposed
to the traditional names used by domestic car makers.
About the same time, while researching what people really wanted
from a trusted advisor, the three most common responses were
Quality advice, Results, and to help them achieve Success. Since all
three letters scored highly in market research and the letters
happened to match what clients seek, the QRS name was chosen.
When choosing colors for QRS, the blue on blue theme with a touch of green was
chosen to present a professional image so that clients and other stakeholders
would know they could rely on QRS. The managing director of QRS, Steve Ries is
color blind (please forgive him if his clothes are occasionally mismatched). If you
believe the marketing and psychological studies, the dark blue inspires confidence
and trust. The ocean blue has a strong, yet soothing effect. Green represents
hope and a new beginning (think spring and is also the color of money).
Once the colors were in place, thought was given to a logo that would project the
values that Steve wished to instill in QRS. What is important to many people are
the relationships they form with others. The most important relationships are with
family and friends. It has been said the attendance at one's funeral will be more
dependent upon the weather and relationships with the deceased than the amount
of money he or she had. With the blue on blue colors, the ocean naturally came to
mind. And whales are considered the most successful inhabitants of the sea.
Orcas were selected as they are social animals (they are mammals, not fish) that
usually live in family groups known as pods. They are intelligent, quick to learn,
and known to have long memories. QRS hopes to provide value to our clients so
that they and their pods will achieve success on their life's journey.
